If you’ve ever lived with a toddler, you know how much trouble they can get themselves into in a matter of seconds. It seems almost a given that they will be accident prone. My 1 year 8 month old daughter is no different. Right now she has a small bruise on the back of her knee… how does one get a bruise on the BACK of their knee? I have no idea. She was blessed with two parents who are both pretty accident prone – I’m constantly covered in bruises from walking into things, mainly the corner of the bed or coffee table. Half the time I’m not even sure where the bruises came from because I walk into things so often. My poor children are genetically destined to be walking bruises.

All parents want to keep their kids safe, but accidents happen, and medical insurance isn’t always enough to cover them. According to the Centers for Disease Control, over 2.6 million children are treated in emergency rooms every year for sports-related injuries, and the average cost of treatment for an individual injury is $5500, with the cost for treatment for a broken leg coming in at over $10,000 for the uninsured.

Aflac offers supplemental insurance policies that pay policyholders directly to help pay bills in the case of covered illness, injury, or loss. With many policies, these benefits can even be used for other out-of-pocket expenses that come up after an accident, such as rent, gas, groceries, and more. Anyone that has ever had a visit to the ER or a stay in the hospital knows that, even with insurance, medical bills can get out of hand with co-pays, deductibles to reach, et cetera.

Aflac offers a program called One Day PaySM, which allows them to process, approve and pay claims in just one day. Aflac’s supplemental accident insurance can be purchased directly or through a company benefits program. For more information on Aflac’s accident policies, visit the Aflac website here.
