Lighting in Style: The Magic of Modern Sconces and Wall Lamps

Getting the lighting right is the crucial element that will almost make or break how it looks and feels every time walk you walk into a room in your home.

Thankfully there are plenty of modern lighting design options available so that you can transform your house and perk up those boring blank walls using the magic of modern wall sconces and wall lamps.

Using sconces

There are numerous different light fittings available and sconces are a light fixture which attaches directly to your wall as opposed to hanging from the ceiling or being supported by its own base.

A distinctive feature of things like 1-light scones and other design options available, is the fact that they often have closed bottoms and the light they create is directly upwards toward the ceiling. You might also find sconces which direct light in the opposite direction and either way it works to create a focal point on your wall and instantly enhances the atmosphere in the room.

Sconces are not exactly new as their design is based on ancient historical forms of lighting where fire torches were attached to walls, but they are definitely relevant when it comes to modern lighting options.

Creating intrigue

You can use sconces and wall lamps to create a sense of drama and intrigue and this particularly works well if you have a recessed wall or arch feature that you can draw attention to with a couple of strategically placed sconces.

Wall sconces and wall lamps are also very effective in enhancing an already distinctive appearance that you might have achieved through using a wall covering like natural wood and the combination of sconces and a natural wooden floor with crisp white walls, provides a very contemporary feel in an instant.

Tall rooms

If you live in an apartment or tall building where the ceiling height is greater than normal, you can use sconces to enhance the already attractive attributes of a double-height room.

A series of staggered sconces working their way up the wall will not just provide the level of lighting you are looking for but they will also provide a design feature that helps to create that wow factor and an ultra-modern feel to the room if that is what you are trying to achieve.

Using wall lamps

In addition to using sconces, don’t forget that wall lamps are another option that can help to highlight a feature that you might have on your wall, such as a favorite piece of art.

Wall lamps are extremely versatile and are just as comfortable creating a vintage feel as they are in contributing to a contemporary look. Combing old and new in a shabby-chic kind of way also works well, so you could use a retro-style modern wall lamp to highlight modern architecture or objects or the other way around, whichever works for you.

One thing is for sure, modern sconces and wall lamps can certainly weave their magic in transforming your room.
