The Best Kind of Collar for Your Tie Knot
It’s hard enough to choose the right kind of shirt for an occasion let alone the tie to go with it. Add to that the various knot styles you need to pick from, and you can find yourself in quite a tangle (excuse the pun). Here’s our list of favourite knot types and the best kind of collar to pair them with.
Four-in-hand
This knot is fairly informal and tends to be rather narrow. Try pairing it with a Button Down, Point Collar or Narrow Spread shirt. In recent times wearing a slimmer tie knot with a medium Spread shirt has also become a popular choice.
Full Windsor
The most popular knot to learn today, the Windsor looks fantastic with Wide Spread or Londonder style shirts due to its chunkier shape.
Half Windsor
Smaller than the traditional Windsor, this knot is perfect with a Medium Spread collar style and can be worn for many different occasions.
Pratt
This symmetrical style tends to be narrower and is one of the most versatile knot types when it comes to matching it with a collar. Try combining it with a Button Down or Spread collar.
