Let’s Start Fighting Hunger Together!
This post brought to you by The Walmart Foundation. All opinions are 100% mine.
The numbers are staggering when you consider how many people don’t know where their next meal will come from. In fact that number is over 50 million people in the United States alone. The recession and current unemployment rates are the biggest contributors of hunger. It saddens me to think about other people not being to have the comfort of their own home, a warm meal, and just plain piece of mind in having a stable lifestyle. When opportunities arise for me to to help in some way I’m always excited and willing to see how I can contribute.
Walmart is a store that so many of us frequent in our day to day lives already, but what if while we’re doing what we already do, we can help others in the process? I recently came across the Walmart Foundation’s Fighting Hunger Together Initiative where they have teamed up with Feeding America, ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogs in a nationwide effort to generate meals for families in need. This initiative will be going on from April 9th through April 30th.
How Can YOU Help?
During the timeframe of the initiative you would be able to Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart. I do encourage you to help spread the word and share this on your social networks so others can join in and help feed more families. When voting you would be voting for communities among the highest unemployment rates, as determined by the Department of Labor Report. It’s very hard for me to choose who to vote for because they all CLEARLY need help, but if I have to choose it will be either Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater or El Centro, CA.
In addition to voting on Facebook for this cause you can also continue to visit Walmart and during that April 9th-30th period be sure to purchase products from the participating companies OR you can donate meals directly to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids. Just be sure to look out for signs in your local Walmart so you can help make a difference and we can all Start Fighting Hunger Together!
