Who Is Troy Davis? A Scheduled Execution With So Much Doubt
I’d like to begin this post with one question, Would you feel at peace knowing an innocent man was put to death and that YOU could have helped with the cause?
Put aside race, gender and anything that could allow you to have a bias on this story and just ask yourself this
1.) Would be okay with a family member or friend being put to death based if 7 of the original 9 eyewitnesses who had linked to the killing recanted all or part of their trial testimony?
2.) Would you be okay if someone you loved was put on trial and their jury was comprised of individuals who don’t fit what would be considered their peer?
3.) With no murder weapon found, no DNA evidence, and questionable witness statements should a man be put to death?
Now to answer your question “Who Is Troy Davis?”
Troy Davis is a man who has been on death row in Atlanta Georgia for the last two decades for allegedly murdering a policeman. The keyword in my previous statement would be allegedly. He is set to be executed on September 21st by lethal injection. An appeal for Clemency was made in efforts to try to save this man but it was swiftly denied by by Georgia’s Board of Pardons and Paroles. (Read more about his story here)
He is a man that has lost half his life sitting in a prison cell awaiting his last days. He is a man, which could have been your brother, son, cousin, or best friend, who after decades of a trial upon trial being built on questionable evidence and falable witness statements will be sent to death by lethal injection if you don’t voice your opinion for the cause!
This case isn’t about black or white, man or woman… it’s about doing what is right and saving a man’s life!
