6 Fun Activities You Can Count as Exercise
Going to the gym isn’t everyone’s idea of a fun time. It’s smelly, expensive, and worst of all, boring—at least to some. But that doesn’t mean you should just sit on the couch day in and day out. There are plenty of fun activities that more than count as physical exercise. Here are a few that you should give a shot!

Hiking Through the Woods
Hiking is an incredibly fun way to get your exercise in if you’re not one for the gym. Not only does it get you out in nature where you can experience the sights, smells, and sounds of the earth, but you’ve got a variety of different places you could hike. You could hike through the woods, along the lake, or anywhere else that would make for a fun adventure. Just be sure to wear proper footwear and take breaks as needed, otherwise, you’ll be feeling heel pain in the morning.
Skating or Cycling
It’s time to whip out your old roller skates and dust off your bike because those are both great ways to get your daily dose of exercise in. You don’t need a fancy mountain bike or high-dollar blades to work up a sweat; all you need to do is have fun and keep peddling. You can do so along a trail, the sidewalk, on safe roads, or anywhere else you think you can reasonably manage without falling over.
Swimming
Care to go for a dip? Swimming might just be the best exercise you can do to get into shape—and also the most fun. Because it takes multiple muscles working at the same time to keep you afloat and cutting through the water, you’ll be burning calories in no time at all. Grab your goggles, tighten your swimsuit, and dive in!
Rock Climbing
Rock climbing isn’t for the faint of heart if you’re scared of heights, but it can be a blast for those that are willing. No, you don’t need to find the nearest mountain or cliff to do so, either, as there are plenty of indoor rock climbing facilities available where you can strap into a harness and climb to your heart’s content. There are even color-coated rocks that act as paths you can take based on difficulty.
Playing Sports
You don’t have to be a professional athlete to play backyard sports with your friends, and thank goodness, otherwise many of us would never play at all. By simply playing some of your favorite sports, such as basketball, kickball, and football with a group of friends or family, you’ll get all the cardio you need for the day and have fun doing it.
Working Up a Sweat
If you’re looking for fun ways to work up a sweat and stay in shape, these activities are worth giving a shot. Not only are they fun, but your health will be all the better because of them.
