Us: Movie Review

I think the first thing I personally want to say is you can’t compare US to Get Out, lol. So many people want to do that because Jordan Peele created both, but I think each movie just needs to stand alone with it’s own merits. When Us was being advertised it was done so as a horror movie. For me Us isn’t so much horror as it is a thriller. In fact, calling it a horror movie may have deterred audiences from seeing it, and for those of us that did (no pun intended) don’t get the gore that you may have been expecting.
With that said, I think US was a very well made movie with multiple facets in it’s message. Lupita Nyongo did a fabulous job portraying 2 very complicated characters, Adelaide and Red. Winston Duke plays her husband Gabe and his doppelgänger Abraham. I have to be honest, I spent a lot of time screaming at Gabe lol… if I didn’t know him as M’baku from Black Panther, I may have thought he was a lame lol. He played his part well though.
For me US is an intricate tale that forces us to look within ourselves and at the world as we THINK we know it. So many different topics are covered, but one that sticks out is about how we can go about in our everyday lives knowing others are suffering but be okay because it isn’t US. US asks you to question everything and everyone you know lol. I think the movie does require a processing period because so much happens and you really have to digest it all.

I do believe the movie is very well done and that Jordan Peele executed this film exactly as he meant to. US goes beyond race and class so it’s a movie that will force anyone that’s willing to listen, to look within themselves. I definitely want to watch it again, especially after seeing other fan theories. It makes for a great movie among friends or even a date night where you’re up for a discussion after.
